Biography

Zjamal Xanitha is a choreographer, performer, teacher, director, therapist and ritualist. She has over 30 years experience in group facilitation and community process leadership. Teaching nationally and internationally, her work has explored personal development, creative guidance, and spiritual education from a body-based, earth-based perspective. She graduated from the Amsterdam College of the Arts and for seven years she was on the faculty of the School for New Dance Development in Holland . An important time in her widely diverse career were the years spent teaching Women's Spirituality in the Philosophy and Religion Department of the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco , U.S.A. Since moving to Australia in 1998 she has taught at the Victoria College of the Arts in Melbourne, Northern Rivers Conservatorium, the Queensland University of Technology, the Cooloola Sunshine Institute of Tafe, the Powerhouse, Brisbane and on teaching tours nation-wide. As an independent dance artist, she has made her own work since 1978. She has performed in New Zealand , Australia , Italy , England , Germany , Holland , Jamaica and the USA ; in theatres, studios, and outdoor sites.

Zjamal is also a Gestalt Psychotherapist in private practise on the Gold Coast hinterland and teaches Somatic Psychotherapy at two Gestalt  training Institutes in Australia.
